Target Overview
Matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3, stromelysin-1; UniProt P08254; EC 3.4.24.17) is a 477-amino-acid zinc-dependent endopeptidase with broad substrate specificity, cleaving proteoglycans, laminin, fibronectin, gelatin, and non-fibrillar collagens. MMP-3 activates other pro-MMPs (including pro-MMP-1 and pro-MMP-9), making it a central node in extracellular matrix remodeling cascades. It is implicated in arthritis, atherosclerosis, tumour invasion, and vascular disease.
