Target Overview
Matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1, interstitial collagenase; UniProt P03956; EC 3.4.24.7) is a 469-amino-acid zinc-dependent endopeptidase that cleaves fibrillar collagens (types I, II, III) at a specific site three-quarters of the way from the N-terminus. It is the principal secreted collagenase in wound healing, tissue remodeling, tumour invasion, and inflammatory processes. Expression is tightly regulated at the transcriptional level and by post-translational activation of the pro-enzyme.
