Rabbit polyclonal antibody against Maspin (SERPINB5). Maspin is a non-inhibitory serpin family member with tumor-suppressor activity, extensively studied in breast, prostate, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers. Loss or downregulation of maspin expression correlates with poor prognosis and metastatic progression in multiple carcinomas.
Unlike classical inhibitory serpins, maspin does not trap target proteases in a covalent complex; its reactive center loop is thought to mediate protein-protein interactions rather than protease inhibition. Maspin localizes dynamically to cytoplasm, nucleus, cell surface, and mitochondria — the subcellular distribution correlates with tumor cell phenotype. Reported binding partners include heat shock proteins, integrin subunits, and glutathione S-transferase.
Three TPB antibody variants recognize distinct regions of maspin, enabling detection of both the full-length 42 kDa cytosolic form and processed variants. Nuclear maspin (associated with better prognosis) can be distinguished from cytoplasmic maspin (associated with proliferative phenotype) using immunofluorescence with our recommended dilution range.
Applications: Western blot validated (all three clones). MCF-7 breast cancer cell lysate is the standard positive control.

Reactivity: Human confirmed; mouse and rat predicted.
