| Data Sheet for RP3BMP1 | |
| Product Name | Rabbit Antibody to BMP-1 (Bone Morphogenic Protein-1, ProCollagen C-endopeptidase, PCP, mTld); Aminoterminal end |
| Catalog Number | RP3BMP1 |
| Product size | 100 ug |
| Description | RP3BMP1 is a polyclonal antibody made to Bone Morphogenic protein-1 (BMP-1, PCP, ProCollagen C-Peptidase). The antibody is made to a synthetic peptide based on the aminoterminal end of the human sequence. The antibody has been peptide-affinity purified, concentrated to 1 mg/ml, with the addition of 0.01% Sodium Azide as preservative, and 50% glycerol as cryoprotectant. |

BMP-1 (EC 3.4.24.1), also known as Procollagen C-endopeptidase, Procollagen C-Peptidase, or Procollagen C-Proteinase, is an extracellular zinc endopeptidase of the Astacin family. The astacin family includes BMP-1, Astacin, Meprin-A and B, Tolloid-like proteins and Choriolysin. The name BMP-1 reflects the involvement of PCP in the collagen deposition of growing bone. Procollagen C-peptidase cleaves the carboxy end from procollagen, to allow the formation of mature, triplehelical collagen. The Aminoterminal end must also be cleaved by the Procollagen N-Proteinase (PNP or ADAM-TS2). Defects in PNP have been linked to the skin disorder dermatosparaxis, and defects in BMP-1 are thought to lead to aberrant collagen processing, and connective tissue disorders. Many forms of BMP-1 have been reported, with varying truncation at the carboxyterminal end. The RP3BMP-1 is made to the Aminoterminal end of human BMP-1. The long form of BMP-1 is most similar to the Tolloid-like proteins, which have extra EGF-like and CUB domains. RP3BMP-1 can be used for Western blotting, and will detect the shorter BMP-1 as well as the longer mTld form of BMP-1. A recommended starting concentration for Western blots is 1:1000 when using colorimetric substrates such as BCIP/NBT, and 1:5000 for chemiluminescent substrates. Higher concentrations of antibody may be needed for samples from more distantly related species. EDTA/EGTA treatment of tissues or lysates is required to see latent zymogen. FOR RESEARCH USE ONLY. NOT FOR USE IN HUMANS. |
| Storage | The undiluted antibody solution is stable for approximately 6 months at 4°C. For longer storage, store at -20°C. The solution is buffered from freezing at -20°C by 50% glycerol, but will freeze at -80°C. Avoid unnecessary freeze-thaw cycles. Diluted antibody can be reused several times if not contaminated; store at 4°C with 0.05% Sodium Azide as preservative. |
